Movie Fact #750 – January 31st, 2015:

In the 2012 film “Moonrise Kingdom”, the 12-year-old lead character Suzy Bishop (Played by Kara Hayward) packs six (fictitious) storybooks she stole from the public library.

Six artists were commissioned in real life to create the jacket covers for the books seen in the film, and director Wes Anderson wrote passages for each of the books. Suzy is shown reading aloud from three of the books during the film and, while Anderson had considered incorporating animation for the reading scenes, he instead chose to show her reading with the other actors listening spellbound.

In April 2012, Anderson decided to animate all six books and use them in a promotional video in which Bob Balaban, who narrates the actual film, introduces the segment for each of these imaginary books.
