TV Fact #125 – February 14th, 2015:

Actress Diana Rigg was the first person ever to do Kung Fu on the screen as the character Emma Peel on the long-running British show “The Avengers” . In 1965, Ray Austin, fight arranger for series 4 and 5 for the show, went to his producers and said, “Listen, I want to do this thing called Kung Fu”. They responded, “Kung what?”, and insisted that Emma, like her predecessor, stick to judo. Instead, Austin secretly taught Rigg Kung Fu and that is all she wrote…or punched I guess.
