Movie Fact #785 – March 9th, 2015:

Actor Tom Hanks is only one of two actors to win Best Actor at the Academy Awards two years in a row. The films are 1993’s “Philadelphia” and 1994’s “Forrest Gump”. He is only the second actor to do this consecutively. The first is actor Spencer Tracy who won for 1937’s “Captains Courageous” and 1938’s “Boys Town”. INterestingly, Hanks and Tracy were the same age at the time they received their Academy Awards. They were 37 years old for the first win and 38 years old for the second win. Kindred actors I’d say.
