Movie Fact #812 – April 5th, 2015:

The 2011 film “Albert Nobbs”, based on a novella by Irish novelist George Moore, had a very personal investment from actress Glenn Close. Close had first played the titular character of Albert Nobbs in a play titled “The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs” Off-Broadway in 1982 for which she won an Obie Award for Best Actress. She then spent fifteen years trying to turn it into a film.

The film almost went into production in the early 2000’s with director István Szabó, but financing fell apart. Eventually it did go into production in December 2010 with director Rodrigo García helming the film. In addition to her starring role, Close was also a producer and co-wrote the script with screenwriter John Banville.

No one can ever say Close is afraid of commitment.
