Movie Fact #814 – April 7th, 2015:

Actors Al Pacino and Christopher Plummer sort of repeated history with each other this year in 2015’s “Danny Collins”. In the 1999 film “The Insider” they starred in a team dynamic with each other. Pacino was the producer character Lowell Bergman, Lowell Bergman while Plummer starred as “60 Minutes” reporter, Mike Wallace. In “Danny Collins” the roles are reversed with Pacino as the performer Danny Collins and Plummer as behind the scenes as Collins’ business manager Frank Grubman.

Interestingly, both films are also based on true stories. “The Insiders” was based on the true story of a 60 Minutes segment about Jeffrey Wigand, a whistleblower in the tobacco industry while “Danny Collins” was inspired by the true story of folk singer Steve Tilston.
