Movie Fact #726 – April 19th, 2015:

The 1979 film “The China Syndrome” was released on March 16, 1979, 12 days before the Three Mile Island nuclear accident in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Coincidentally, in one scene, physicist Dr. Elliott Lowell (played by Donald Hotton) says that the China Syndrome would render “an area the size of Pennsylvania” permanently uninhabitable. It’s unfortunate when fiction predicts reality in such a horrible way, but what can one do to predict it when it is thought such a thick line separates them.
