Movie Fact #736 – April 29th, 2015:

The shoot for the 1990 film “The Grifters”, based on author Jim Thompson’s 1963 pulp novel of the same name.was emotionally challenging for actress Anjelica Huston, who played the character Lilly Dillon.

After completing the final scene between characters Lilly and Roy Dillon (Played by John Cusack), she was so drained from the experience that she ran from the set and the studio where it took her hours to recover. Then there was the scene where the character Bobo Justus (Played by Pat Hingle) tortures Lilly for information. After shooting the scene, Huston was so affected by the rough quality of the scene (which did not make the final cut of the film) that she spent that night throwing up.

Probably best that scene did not make the final cut of the film otherwise poor Huston might have switched to it accidentally on cable one night and relived a great trauma that is still a testament to her emotional connection to the film.
