Movie Fact #750 – May 13th, 2015:

Actor Cary Grant has an interesting history with his 1944 film “Arsenic and Old Lace” in which he played the lead character Mortimer Brewster.

For example, Grant considered his acting in this film to be horribly over the top and often called it his least favorite of all his movies. What further symbolically shows this is the scene when his character Mortimer is sitting in the graveyard. In this scene, one of the tombstones has the name Archie Leach on it. Archie Leach is Grant’s real name. On the plus side, Grant donated his entire salary, $100,000, to the U.S. War Relief Fun.

So he may not have liked his role…but he played a charitable role in real life because of the film.
