Movie Fact #751 – May 14th, 2015:

As of 2007, there are only three films since the inception of the Best Adapted Screenplay category at Academy Awards to win the award without receiving a Best Picture nomination as well. Those three films are 1952’s “The Bad and the Beautiful”, 1996’s “Sling Blade”, and 1998’s “Gods and Monsters”. On a side note, “The Bad and the Beautiful” holds a record for the most awards for a movie that was not nominated for Best Picture nor for Best Director with five Academy Award wins out of six nominations in 1952.
