TV Fact #205 – May 17th, 2015:

Referring to the Movie Fact for tonight, actor Jack Lemmon’s portrayal of the character Shelley “The Machine” Levene in the 1992 film “Glengarry Glen Ross”, again adapted by playwright David Mamet for the screen from his own 1984 Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning play of the same name, was a major source of inspiration in the creation of the recurring character Gil Gunderson (Voiced by Dan Castellaneta) on “The Simpsons” (1989-Present).

The character Gil Gunderson borrows many of the mannerisms of the character Shelley “The Machine” Levene, and is often portrayed as an unsuccessful salesman. Again, referring to the Movie Fact of tonight…I guess the film did inspire someone…although I don’t know if fictional characters count. Maybe the character of Gil Gunderson taught someone in real life a lesson? Maybe this chain of inspiration ended well. Here’s hoping again.
