TV Fact #207 – May 19th, 2015:

Actress Donzaleigh Abernathy, who played the character Sara Jackson (the wife of a civil rights activist) in the show “Any Day Now” (1998-2002), is the real-life daughter of Rev. Ralph Abernathy, one of the key figures of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference which was the keynote organization behind the actual Civil Rights movement. Her personal connection to the story, one about the dual women characters Mary Elizabeth “M.E.” Sims (Played by Annie Potts) and Rene Jackson (Played by Lorraine Toussaint) being best friends despite the difference in their races, somehow adds a deeper investment to the story as an audience member. Cause really, if someone on the show doesn’t believe in what they are selling, why should we as the audience?
