Movie Fact #776 – June 8th, 2015:

The 1959 film “Odds Against Tomorrow” is the first noir with a black protagonist, the lead character Ingram (Played by Harry Belafonte). It was also the last time director Robert Wise shot black-and-white film in the standard aspect ratio, which “gave his films the gritty realism they were known for”. I suppose though it’s appropriate as it seems it is here that morality and prejudice began to no longer be seen as just blacks and whites either…the gray area began to show in between the two sides.
