Movie Fact #781 – June 13th, 2015:

The 1959 film “The Hanging Tree” may have been directed by Delmer Daves but actor Karl Malden, who played the character “Frenchy” Plante, took over directing duties for several days when Daves fell ill. This happened to be actor George C. Scott’s first film in which he played the character Grubb. Malden would work with Scott later in the 1970 film “Patton” as the character Major General (later General) Omar N. Bradley next to Scott’s character Major General (later General) George S. Patton.
