Movie Fact #791 – June 23rd, 2015:

The film “Malibu Hot Summer” is dated on IMDB to have been released in 1981, said to have been filmed in 1974, but elsewhere says it wasn’t released officially until 1986 after it’s lead actor, Kevin Costner as the lead character John Logan in one of his earliest roles, became a celebrity. Alternatively titled “Sizzle Beach, U.S.A.”, Costner’s biography says it was filmed between 1978 and 1979. I wonder which is the correct set of dates?

Either way, I don’t envy any production team that had to eventually get that filmed released, no idea at the time whether Costner’s name be big enough to help send the movie out into the world and hope they recoup the budget they spent. I don’t care whether a film turns out to be good or bad, it’s always a gamble for the investors of a film. I wonder if the gamble ultimately paid off somehow…whenever the film was actually released.
