Movie Fact #799 – July 1st, 2015:

The 1982 film “The World According to Garp”, based on the novel of the same title by author John Irving, was one three films that provided four performances that were Oscar nominated for drag at the 1983 Academy Awards ceremony which was an all-time record for any one year. The first was actor Dustin Hoffman for the character of Michael Dorsey / Dorothy Michaels in 1982’s “Tootsie”. The second was actress Julie Andrews for the character of Victoria Grant and Robert Preston for the character of Carole “Toddy” Todd in 1982’s “Victor Victoria”. The final one was for actor John Lithgow for the character Roberta Muldoon in “The World According to Garp”. Interestingly, none of them won.
