TV Fact #251 – July 2nd, 2015:

“The Big Valley” (1965-1969) was a popular show for all four of its seasons. Why was it cancelled? It was because, despite its popularity, the networks were phasing out westerns in favor of more modern TV shows. Bob Dylan’s most famous line is about how the times are changing. He really had no idea just how much since Westerns were a cornerstone of film and television. How many grand films and shows of that genre can you name from the early 20th century? Now try and name some in the 21st century. Not as easy is it?
