Movie Fact #814 – July 16th, 2015:

The 1987 film “A Month in the Country”, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by author J. L. Carr, featured film debuts or early roles of several notable British actors. Actor Colin Firth, in his third cinema feature film, saw himself in his first lead role as the character Tom Birkin. Also it was actor Kenneth Branagh’s first cinema film, playing the character James Moon and actress Natasha Richardson’s second as the character Alice Keach. Conversely, it was the last role of David Garth. who died in May 1988. Interestingly, Garth played Old Birkin in contrast to Firth’s first lead role character of Tom Birkin. It’s kind of a strange symbolism of the cycle of life. We begin young and end old, but we never stop trying inbetween.
