Movie Fact #839 – August 9th, 2015:

The concept for the 1995 film “Richard III”, adapted from author William Shakespeare’s play of the same name except the play’s events are relocated to a fictionalized fascist version of Britain in the 1930’s, was based on a stage production directed by Richard Eyre for the Royal National Theatre. This stage production also starred actor Ian McKellen as Richard, Duke of Gloucester (Later King Richard III) who would play Richard III again in this film.
