Movie Fact #850 – August 20th, 2015:

The 1979 film “Being There”, adapted from the 1970 novella by author Jerzy Kosinski, was the last film featuring actor Peter Sellers to be released in Sellers’ lifetime. Sellers played the lead character Chance the Gardener, a.k.a. Chauncey Gardiner. However, he was displeased with the way the film concluded.

See, during the end credits, there is a film’s end roll over a humorous outtake, known as the “Rafael outtake”. Sellers was later displeased that the outtake ran because he believed it took away from his character’s mystique and also believed the outtake was what prevented him from winning the Oscar that year (Although he was nominated for the role).
