Movie Fact #853 – September 12th, 2015:

The 1947 historical adventure film “Captain from Castile”, an adaptation of the 1945 best-selling novel “Captain from Castile” by author Samuel Shellabarger, made extensive use of Mexican inhabitants as extras. In fact, more than 19,500 took part in various scenes, with approximately 4,500 used in the final sequence filmed in front of Parícutin’s smoking cinder cone.
