TV Fact #326 – September 14th, 2015:

The television detective series “Barnaby Jones” (1973-1980) almost had a reunion television movie in the mid-1990’s when show co-stars Lee Meriwether and Mark Shera, who played the characters Betty Jones and J.R. respectively, expressed interest in it. However, they could not talk lead actor Buddy Ebsen, who played the titular character Barnaby Jones, into joining the project.

Interesting, in 1993, Ebsen reprised the role of Barnaby Jones in “The Beverly Hillbillies”, the big-screen remake of his most famous television series, where actor Jim Varney played the character Jed Clampett, the role Ebsen played on the television series, in the film. And, just to add to it, that would be Ebsen’s final theatrical appearance. Too bad Ebsen didn’t call Meriwether and Shera to stop by and grant them their wish. Might have made the audience question though which series the film was adapting though.
