Movie Fact #863 – September 22nd, 2015:

The 1928 silent romantic comedy film “The Matinee Idol” was long thought lost until a nitrate print was rediscovered in the vaults of the Cinémathèque Française in the 1990’s. The film was then restored with the restoration was a joint venture of the Cinémathèque Française, the Motion Picture Academy, and Sony Entertainment. However, this restored version runs 57 minutes but is still missing about 5 minutes.
On a more production-focused note, there is no cast list in the film. Actress Bessie Love, who plays the lead character Ginger Bolivar, and actor Johnnie Walker, who played the co-lead character Don Wilson (A.k.a. “Harry Mann”), are on the title page and are listed first. Then, all the credited cast are then introduced by intertitle frames which also provide their character names, just before they are shown onscreen.
