The 2013 Japanese animated fantasy drama film “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya”, based on the folktale “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter”, is, at 137 minutes, the longest film by Studio Ghibli, three minutes longer than 1997’s “Princess Mononoke”. It also featured actor James Caan and actress Mary Steenburgen as the English voice actors for the characters “The Bamboo Cutter” and “The Bamboo Cutter’s Wife”, respectively. Caan and Steenburgen previously played husband and wife in the 2003 film “Elf” as the characters Walter Hobbs and Emily Hobbs.
