TV Fact #369 – October 27th, 2015:

The British TV comedy-drama series “Lovejoy” (1986-1994), based on the picaresque novels by author John Grant under the pen name Jonathan Gash, saw the television version respect the author’s wish not to reveal the first name of the lead character Lovejoy (Played by Ian McShane). So, just as in the books, Lovejoy’s first name is never mentioned in the TV series and the character insists on being addressed simply as “Lovejoy”. So just as Grant wrote the books under a pen name, Lovejoy’s name was kept hidden. I suppose it’s appropriate that all this secrecy would occur in a mystery-like series. Talk about drawing parallels to real life.
