Movie Fact #893 – November 21st, 2015:

The 1955 American drama film, with elements of film noir, “The Man with the Golden Arm”, based on the novel of the same name by author Nelson Algren, originally saw actor Marlon Brando offered the role of Frankie Machine, but actor/singer Frank Sinatra jumped at the opportunity and was signed before Brando could accept.

Sinatra did this because he still harboured some anger at Brando, since the latter had beaten Sinatra for the lead role of Terry Mallow in the 1954 American crime drama film “On the Waterfront” which, like “The Man with the Golden Arm”, contained elements of film noir.

Well…Sinatra could hold a grudge couldn’t he?
