Movie Fact #896 – November 24th, 2015:

Probably now surprise here given his relationship with the genre at this time but director J. Lee Thompson’s first choice for the role of lead character Marshall Sam MacKenna in the 1969 western film “Mackenna’s Gold”, based on the novel of the same name by author Heck Allen using the pen name Will Henry, was actor Clint Eastwood. However Eastwoood was offered the lead role in 1968’s “Hang ‘Em High” so actor Gregory Peck replaced him.
