Movie Fact #904 – December 2nd, 2015:

The 2015 British-American romantic drama film “Carol”, based on the novel “The Price of Salt” (also known as “Carol”) by author Patricia Highsmith, features actress Rooney Mara as the co-lead role of Therese.

She was the original choice for the role and was offered the role after completing 2011’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” when John Crowley was set to direct but she passed on the role due to weariness. Then actress Mia Wasikowska was then attached, but later left the project in order to do the 2015 film “Crimson Peak”. When that happened, coupled with director Todd Haynes coming on board in 2013, Mara came back on board to play the role.

And now…Mara might, at minimum, get her second Oscar nomination. With all the production halts…feels like “Carol” was just waiting for Mara to get back on board. Destiny anyone?
