TV Fact #416 – December 13th, 2015:

The American television sitcom “Home Improvement” (1991-1999) featured the popular character Wilson (Played by Earl Hindman), the next door neighbor of the Taylor family. His whole face we never see, the bottom half of it usually covered by the fence. In fact, except for the series finale, during curtain calls Hindman would even bring a miniature picket fence to hold in front of his face so that it would remain hidden from view. This character and this quirk is actually based on actor Tim Allen’s childhood memories of when he was too short to see over a fence, and was therefore unable to see his neighbor.
